What you'll learn in this swing class:
Known as the "Sophisticated Swing," West Coast Swing incorporates slinky, smooth and sexy moves to Soul, Blues and Contemporary music. This dance began in Blues clubs in the 1940's, originating from the Lindy Hop. Since then, each region has developed a style and name for this slotted Swing dance. Examples are: The Texas Push, Chicago Steppin, and D.C. Hand Dancing. Whatever you call it, the West Coast Swing is "the" Swing Dance for today's music and is hotter than ever! Take this course for 3 cycles, and you are ready to move to the Intermediate level.

Teacher: Kendall Pham
Kendall began dancing ballet as a child and discovered partner dancing through the dance department at the University of Texas at Austin. She was very involved in the ballroom club on campus, Texas Ballroom, where she studied and taught the International and American styles. Soon, Kendall found her true love in country western partner dancing. She is drawn to its fun, expressive, and social nature. In Texas, Kendall competed successfully in country western couples and pro-am on the American Country Dance Association circuit. She currently competes in hustle and cabaret with Roberto Pagan, in west coast swing with Billy Marti (NASDE), and in line dance (UCWDC). Through her dance business, Aspiration Dance, Kendall regularly taught at many studios and events in Texas, Vermont, Massachusetts, and New Hampshire. In addition to teaching partner dancing, she founded and directed the Aspiration Dance Ballet Company in Austin, Texas. She taught dance to elementary school kids in an after-school program in Austin, and she is a certified Core Rhythms Live fitness instructor. Kendall strongly values cross-training between dance styles. She emphasizes moving in informed, healthy ways, so she works to teach dance technique that is bio-mechanically optimal for each individual. She also focuses on lead/follow techniques that allow her students to be responsive to their partners on the social, performance, and competitive dance floors.
