What you'll learn in this spirit & cheese tasting:

Join us as we explore the ins and outs of this delightful whisky.

Cheese certainly loves its partners wine and beer, but it's high time for cheese to branch out a little--this time to the delightful spirit from across the pond. Allan Roth of Brooklyn's Char No. 4, shedding some light on what defines a scotch, how to assess it, and how various ages, blends, and malts contribute to its final flavors. To complete the experience, Jordan Zimmerman, the school's Associate Manager of Education, will be on hand to pair each whisky with its perfect cheesy compliment. Savor the peaty smoke of an Islay malt with the rich, boullion flavors of cheddar, and sip a smooth, velvety single malt alongside a caramel-sweet Gouda. Raise a glass to grains over grapes!

Kristina Sutter Single Malt Scotch Ambassador Kristina Sutter is our go-to for single malt expertise. Her stories of travel to Scotland, her extensive knowledge, her incredible palate, and her undeniable passion for whiskey all combine to make for outstanding whiskey education. Kristina currently represents the single malts of Bowmore, Glen Grant, and The Glenrothes, and spends her days educating restaurants and consumers on the how, what, when, and whys of single malt scotch. We were as delighted as Kristina to experience the joy of pairing the Bowmore 15 Year single malt with an equally distinguished and nutty partner- Ossau Iraty Vieille. Sascha Ingram Education and Events Coordinator Sascha Ingram just can't stop talking about cheese. After studying English and working in education, Sascha followed her nose (and her tastebuds!) to Forward Foods, a cheese and specialty foods shop in her native Oklahoma, where she spent the next few years turning on her fellow Okies to the wonders of Epoisses and Uplands Cheese Company Pleasant Ridge Reserve. After she had nearly memorized The Murray's Cheese Handbook, she tried her hand at the Murray's counter, eventually finding her way into the classroom, where you might catch her introducing the basics in Cheese 101, waxing poetic on the origins of cheese in Cheese U Boot Camp, or leading you through the ins and outs of affinage in Mystery of the Caves.

School: Murray's Cheese

The History of New York's Oldest and Best Cheese Shop: Murray Greenberg (never met him; he died before I got here) was a Jewish Spanish civil war veteran and communist who opened a wholesale butter and egg shop a few doors up Cornelia street in 1940. The old timers tell me that even though he was...

Attended: American Craft Beer and Cheese

Very fun and knowledgable staff! Had a great time.

Attended: Cheese 101

I took my dad to this class as his birthday present. We both had a great time, learned a lot about cheese, and greatly enjoyed both the cheeses and wine. Jordan was amazing. She was entertaining, excited about cheese, and very knowledgeable. She made us feel comfortable participating and asking questions.

Attended: Cheese 101

Fantastic energetic and enthusiastic teacher who was very knowledgable about cheese!

Attended: Bee Cool: Bee Raw Honey and Cheese

Well organized and beautifully presented! I learned about the way cheeses are made, and how to identify different types. There are as many different types of honeys as there are flowers and beekeepers willing to try them! When you pair different cheeses with different honeys, you can get an explosion of flavor that you would not expect! The class was fun and delicious! I would heartily recommend it to everyone!

Attended: Cheese 101

Amazing class! A great introduction to understanding about cheese. Sean was great, insightful, knowledgeable, and all for questions and further explanations. Plus, the cheeses were absolutely delicious! Definitely coming back for another class soon.
