Yes you can sew your own amazing swimsuit. Learn all you need to know and leave with a customized, finished suit in this three-week series.
Summer will be here before you know it, so get ready to greet the hot temps in style with a cute suit, sewn by you.
Didn’t think such a thing was possible? Well it is, and we promise you can do it in our three-week course. Led by expert sewing blogger, Sonja Gingerich, you’ll learn how to stitch up a bathing suit from start to finish.
In this course, you’ll learn:
Intermediate sewing skills are required for this class. You should be familiar with threading and operating a home sewing machine, and have an understanding of the basics of garment sewing.
Are materials provided and included in cost of the class? No.
Each student must bring the following to the first class (all local sources given are in Manhattan’s garment district):
This pattern accommodates sizes up to 44″ bust, 37″ waist, and 46″ hips. If your sizes falls outside this range, please contact us before class so that we can make alternate pattern arrangements for you.

- How to cut stretch fabrics
- How to sew stretch fabrics, with focus on adjustments you need to make on the sewing machine and special techniques
- How to gather fabric to create ruching

Are materials provided and included in cost of the class? No.
Each student must bring the following to the first class (all local sources given are in Manhattan’s garment district):
- 1.5 yds (60″ wide) or 2 yds (45″ wide) swimsuit lycra fabric (available locally at Mood Fabrics or online at hartsfabric.com)
- 1 yd swimsuit lining (available locally at Spandex House)
- 4 yds rubber/swimwear elastic (rubber elastic available locally at Pacific Trimming; swimwear elastic available online at sewsassy.com)
- Large spool of all-purpose thread to match your fabric

Refund Policy
We do not issue refunds on workshop registrations.
- If you register for a workshop and later become unable to attend, we will gladly offer a credit if you notify us at least 5 business days before the workshop.
- We are unable to offer credits of any kind, or honor reschedule requests, with less than 5 business days advance notice.
In fairness to all of our customers, we are unable to make exceptions to our policy, including for reasons of illness or travel. If you are unable to attend a workshop at the last minute, we suggest giving your spot to a friend!
In any event where a customer wants to cancel their enrollment and is eligible for a full refund, a 5% processing fee will be deducted from the refund amount.
