Teacher: Paul R.

See Classes Taught by This Teacher »

In the 1980's, Paul was working in a large retail store selling TV's, VCR's, and all types of computers. In 1988, Paul needed a major change in his life, so he started to work in ofices using his typing skills and found that he had a natural ability in bookkeeping and became a full time bookkeeper until 1997. A computer school, looking through the yellow pages trying to find someone to teach some software to some of their students, stumbled across his name and called him to teach QuickBooks for two hours. Paul interviewed, was hired, and taught 2 hours. This was the final career change for Paul. He has been teaching accounting including Peachtree and QuickBooks since 1998 with his own clients and at business schools in the New York City area. Paul believes that the more questions students ask in the course of a class, the more that the students will learn. He also knows that accounting and bookkeeping can be boring to some people, so that when Paul teaches classes, he tries to make it interesting using real life situations and have fun at the same time as teaching a serious subject. "I am here for the students and if the students don't learn something substantial at the end of the day, then I haven't done my job."

Class was very well run, with friendly, accessible, clear instruction. From the class description I was expecting to have more general Excel overview included, which would have been helpful, as the level of data being used for the class examples was quiet high. But even without that, the information was still manageable even for unexperienced Excel users like myself.

Attended: Powerpivot Fundamentals

This class was great, but my only feedback would be that I don't think it's accurate in the description to say: This Excel class is perfect for those who are new to Excel, have been using Excel without any training or need to gain a solid grasp of how to use it effectively. This was a much more advanced class than beginner excel level. The examples and formulas were complicated. But overall I learned a lot and I liked the format and the manual is very helpful. Thank you!

Small class, lots of individualized instruction. Paul was very knowledgeable & clear in instruction. I feel confident I can set up and maintain basic quick books for my small business.

Nice class, good practice for basic Excel

This class was an excellent and thorough introduction to Wordpress. The class moved at the perfect pace and was easy to follow, but also very informative and hands-on.

Attended: Illustrator for Fashion: Level 1

I thought this class was great. Only 5 sessions in which to learn a lot, but instructor Mikelle was incredibly knowledgeable and paced the classes evenly. She was also available by email to answer questions outside of class. Bonus that she brought current, real world experience to her instruction abilities. Grateful to have taken the class with her. Also, head client manager Faye was so helpful and cheerful the whole way through! 5 stars for NYIM and this class.

Attended: SPSS Essentials

My only suggestion would be that the instructor distribute something in writing to correspond with the basic points covered. It is pretty much impossible to take notes during the session because it is so fast moving. Very hard to retain any of the instructions. If he would distribute basic written instructions on what he covers, the student could come away with something that they could continue to work with after the course. For this reason the course is very overpriced for what you get from it.

Attended: Excel 2007-2010

Great teacher, and pace was excellent.

Attended: Excel 2013

I'm really happy with this class, I think it was well structured in terms of the assigned tasks and I was properly assisted by the teacher in each of the opportunities I demanded. This is a very useful course. Thanks

Attended: Advanced Excel Power Users 2010

I thought this class was a wonderful overview of ways to improve your efficiency in using excel and touched upon some Macros and match index examples at the end. The teacher was good and it was only me and one other person so we were able to ask a lot of questions.

Attended: How to Create a Dynamic Website or Blog with WordPress

I erroneously assumed that given the cost and length of this class, it would be well worth the investment. The room was uncomfortably hot and the instruction was dry and not as helpful as expected. At the end of the day, I walked out with minimal understanding of Wordpress and a hefty manual to study on my own. The organization offers the opportunity to return for the same class, but who wants to risk yet another disappointing day?

Attended: Quickbooks 2013 Level 1 for Mac

This was a VERY helpful class. Paul was a great teacher and went over everything you need to function for Quickbooks 2013 for Mac. I highly recommend this class!

Attended: Outlook Efficiency Techniques 2007-2010

What a fun way to learn! Karen incorporated laughter into the curriculum and helped me unleash my skills. Can't wait to take it again. Thanks!

Attended: Photoshop Essentials

This was really nice boot camp to me. I learned a lot of basic menu and concept of photoshoto, which were much more than I originally expected. The course had just a few people and I could ask any kind of questions and the pace of learing is pretty confortable. recommended!

Attended: Excel 2011 for Mac

Fabulous excel class. Scott was a great teacher. I would like to sign up for the WORD class now. When are they offered? Also, I would like a certificate for the EXCEL class to prove that I took it. Thank you, Kate Kate Maitland

Attended: Advanced Excel 2007-2010

Excellent class and teacher

Attended: Photoshop Essentials

My class turned out to be great. I was the only student so I got a private lesson and we moved along at my pace. This turned out especially well since I knew some Photoshop before the class.
