Class Description

Description

What you'll learn in this printmaking class:

This class is your opportunity to learn multiple print processes in the newly renovated NYAA printmaking facilities. We will cover four different techniques: Monotype, Relief, Intaglio, and Lithography in a straightforward and thorough fashion through a series of lectures and demonstrations. Visits to local printshops will be scheduled to introduce students to working in a communal space outside of the Academy. This is a great refresher course from the class you took in college.

No previous printmaking experience necessary.

Q&A

Q: Will I be given instructions and opportunities to actually make a copper etched plate and some prints through the etching press?
A:
Yes, you will learn to do a basic line etch on copperplate and will print it using the etching press.

Q: Can I make up a class if I miss one?
A: No, there are no makeup classes. Because art is taught with demonstrations and demonstrations are time consuming, if one person misses the class each week, the instructor would spend the first part of each class repeating the demonstration from last week before moving on to the next lesson, which isn't fair to the students who attended. That said, most of our classes are taught atelier style. If there is a demonstration during the particular session, after the demonstration, the instructor goes to each student to work with them on a one-on-one basis. During this time, the instructor can work with you if you missed the previous week to talk and explain what to do.

Q: Are materials provided and included in the cost of the class?
A: No. Materials list include:

Provided for each student:

• Stonehenge Printmaking Paper- Several Sheets
(student is responsible for acquiring more paper when needed)
• Relief Print Materials:
o 8 x 10in Linoleum Block (unmounted)
o Speedball Linocut Tool
• Intaglio Materials:
o 4 x 6in Copperplate
o Etching Needle
• Lithography:
o 8.5 x 11in Pronto or Smart Plate (X2 Per Student)
• Monotype:
o 8 x 10in Plexiglass Plate

Supplies for class to share:

• Etching Ink
• Latex Gloves
• Shop Towels
• Sharpies
• Bic Ballpoint Pens
• Brayers
• Litho Drawing Materials

Refund Policy

100% refund will be issued up to seven days after the first class. After this, no refund will be issued.

MAKE-UP POLICY
Unfortunately, we do not offer makeup classes. The instructor can tell them what they missed. Most of our classes are taught atelier style. If there is a demonstration during the particular session, after the demonstration the instructor goes to each student to work with them on a one-to-one basis. During this time the instructor can work with the student who missed the previous week, talk with them and explain what to do.
