Class Description

Description

What you'll learn in this piano class:

So you've been tampering with piano for a while? Or you might have played classical or been looking at some YouTube videos, jazzy classically written arrangements and trying to figure out how to play jazz, or how to sound "jazzier"? There's a lot of great information on the Internet and a million books and tutorials and you don't know where to start or what kind of plan should you make to get it together, so to speak. This is where Jazz Piano subscription comes in! What we'll do here is learn the basics of jazz piano. That includes learning the basics of jazz theory so you can apply it right away, beautiful way to play chords (voicings), improvisation and rhythmical concepts, bass lines and grooves as well as the must-know jazz standards such as "Autumn Leaves" and the jazz blues. This is not your typical class, this is the ultimate practical interactive training session. This concept is a lot more effective than the traditional way of learning because it applies and integrates the new information in a playing situation. And in jazz and other non-classical music styles you can learn many things only by jumping into that "dreaded icy water" and starting to play right away.

This is how the whole thing works:

You sign-up and we will talk with you about what you already know, what you have learned and determine where you are musically. Then we will send you the information-only package that includes all you need to know to take part in the class. When you come to the class, even if you only read through the initial material, you will be able to follow and to sit in and play. No need to feel intimidated or overwhelmed: we will do exercises to apply the information and then move on to playing where we will integrate the information in a playing situation. While it might feel scary the first time, you will easily pick it up because we will address your needs at your level. At the same time you will be able to learn from others in the class.

Requirements to join this class:
  • Ability to read music notation (both treble and bass clefs)
  • Basic knowledge of chords (such as, for example, major, minor and dominant seventh chords)
  • Prior classical or jazz piano lessons a plus
  • People who play another musical instruments and are looking for piano-as-a-secondary-instrument lessons are welcome as long as they have basic knowledge of piano
  • Must have access to a piano or an electric piano to practice regularly (I recommend 5 days a week, if possible)
Recommended preparation:

While you will receive the information-only package before starting this class, it is still recommend that you attend Jazz Piano Weekend Crash Course because in this crash course I'll go through the practical information in the information package of Jazz Piano subscription. Thus at your first Jazz Piano training session, you will be better prepared.

Refund Policy

There are no refunds unless the minimum number of attendees cannot be reached.
