The Zentangle® Art Form

In this class we will discover the increasingly popular Zentangle® Method, an approach to art that has gained worldwide recognition. A simple, relaxing way for everyone, regardless of artistic ability, to create beautiful images using structured patterns, it also generates wellbeing, increased focus, and meditative states. Using pencil and pen, we will draw structured patterns on 3.5 X 3.5-inch archival quality paper “tile” (i.e. die-cut squares), beginning with simple patterns and then progressing to more complex variations, including Zentangle® mandalas. The traditional style of Zentangle® is to use a black pen on a white tile, but we will also use other types of colored tiles and papers and learn shading techniques as well as how to add highlights and enhancements. Even if you have never drawn before, Zentangle® offers a unique opportunity to discover your inner artist and have a lot of fun.

Note: No previous drawing experience necessary; please bring a sketchbook and/or notebook. A Materials fee of $35 will be paid to the instructor for materials: pencils, (graphite & white charcoal); Black & Brown Sakura Pigma® Micron® pens; White Gelly Roll pen; Tortillion; White, Black & Renaissance original Zentangle®  3.5″ square tiles; Zendala tiles; and Bijou tiles.
