What you'll learn in this knitting class:

There are many different ways to make the same stitch in addition to English (or throwing) and Continental (or picking) styles, there is a style of knitting which involves holding the yarn around the neck or around a hook pinned near the shoulder. This is a wonderful technique to add to your knitting bag of tricks.

Perfect for folks who suffer from carpal tunnel or arthritis, it is also one of the fastest and most efficient ways to knit (also great for lefties). Another advantage of Portuguese Knitting is a more even purl stitch and a simple way to do Fair Isle inside out.Prerequisite Classes: Knitting 2 or skills listed below.Skills Required: Must know how to knit, purl, cast on, bind off & simple increases & decreases and be able to work them in a pattern without supervision. Materials & Homework (if required): Listed in confirmation e-mail.

Patty Lyons learned to knit when she was seven, but it was twelve years ago, while working on Broadway as a Stage Manager, that she rediscovered her passion for knitting. Eight years ago Patty decided to give up her life on the stage to work full-time in the knitting world. After managing a local yarn store, in 2008 she was hired by Lion Brand Yarn as the Studio Director to help create the Lion Brand Yarn Studio. A certified knitting instructor, Patty focuses on helping her students see the “why to” not just the “how to”. She specializes in sweater design and sharing her love of the much-maligned subjects of gauge and blocking. Patty currently teaches more than 30 of the Studio’s 150 workshops and also enjoys teaching at guilds around the country and shows such as Vogue Knitting LIVE and Knit1 Crochet2. She runs the Studio’s education department, overseeing eight staff teachers and a full lineup of master class teachers.

Knitting 1: Beginning Knitting

As a person who has never picked up a pair of knitting needles before, I found this class to be a very good starting point. The teacher was very helpful and knowledgable and I thought the class was very enjoyable. I would definitely recommend this course to a friend and I look forward to taking additional classes at the Lion Brand Studio

Intro to Needle Felting

The class was good. I learned to make a 3D felted cacti. The teacher was very nice and helpful.

Crochet 1: Beginning Crochet

Basically, I have been looking for crafty classes in New York City. I've found that it's difficult to locate the various studios that teach craft skills in the area. Course Horse, obviously, is terrific for compiling many offerings into one website. I'd never heard of Lion Brand Studio before, but the time and location of the class fit my schedule. It seems like a great store/workshop, and I look forward to going there again.
