What you'll learn in this kids theater class:
This original seriously serious, seriously fun class encourages young actors of all levels to explore their own artistic point of view while gaining essential skills.
Activities include improv games, scene study, vocal performance, movement, and also takes into account each child’s individual goals and interests.
Class size is small so kids get the personal attention and non-competitive environment they need to do their best. Classes are taught by professional actors and musicians, creating a fun environment with a serious edge.
Students should wear comfortable clothes that they can move in. Skirts and dresses are fine, but wear leggings or shorts underneath. Please wear shoes appropriate for movement/dancing (sneakers or sandals that strap onto your feet). No flip flops or crocs please.
Refund & Cancellation PolicyDeposits for camps are non-refundable. Campers must cancel no later than one month prior to the first day to receive a refund on the remainder of their fee. Classes must be cancelled no later than one week prior to receive a full refund (minus a $50 processing fee). After these points, refunds are not available.
Our cancellation policy is, first and foremost, to let us know ASAP about any conflicts or emergencies. If you must cancel after 12/noon the previous day, the lesson needs to be paid for, with the option of rescheduling within the next two weeks (not counting regular lessons)*. We try our hardest to reschedule and that is usually possible!
*If the missed lesson takes place in one of our studios (and not in your home), a $15 studio rescheduling fee must be paid regardless of whether a make-up is arranged.
Teacher: Lena Moy-Borgen and Elisa Winter
Lena has been teaching drama and music since 1997. She started teaching in California with the Piedmont Children’s Theatre, where she was the Assistant Director until 2005. In that time she received a BFA in theater from NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts. Lena’s teaching experience is diverse: She has taught programs in clowning at Children’s Fairyland as well as self-defense for young women at Destiny Arts Center, both in Oakland, CA. Here in New York, she has been a teaching artist (and board member) for Arts for All, Inc. since 2002, where she has taught various workshops in music, drama and self-defense in local public schools. She was the Co-Head of the Musical Theater program at Bank Street Summer camp from 2006-2010. She is also a teaching artist at the John Engeman Theater on Long Island. As a performer, Lena has appeared all over New York City on children’s performance tours, as well as prominent off-Broadway theaters such as the Signature Theater Company, the Public Theater and PS122. Elisa is an actor, musician, and teacher. After receiving her BFA in theater from NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts, she made her Broadway debut in the 2005 revival of Sweeney Todd (starring Patti Lupone) and went on to perform in the First National Tour. Most recently she could be seen in Ten Cents A Dance at the McCarter Theater. In addition to acting, Elisa loves working with children and has been doing so for over a decade both in the Chicago and New York City areas. Previous employers include the Chicago Park District, Gate Hill Day Camp and Bank Street Summer Camp, where she was Co-Head of their Musical Theater program. Classically trained as a pianist, cellist and vocalist, Elisa is passionate about teaching children and adults privately in New York City. Firm in her belief that music should be fun and inspiring, Elisa has created an exciting, modern method for music lessons. She is thrilled that, through Play On! Studios, more students will have the opportunity to experience this successful program.
