What you'll learn in this kids art camp class:

Students ages 6-12 learn how to sew and design clothing, draw the fashion figure, and create accessories of all kinds using actual sewing machines in classes taught by professional fashion designers.

The camp runs in 2 week sessions throughout the summer. Projects change each session so students can register for 2, 4, 6, or 8 week. Each session ends with a free fashion show and expo for parents and friends with a larger fashion show at the end of the summer on our exclusive light-up runway.

Lunch is provided by parents; our lunch hour is devoted to eating, relaxation, and games.

This summer sewing camp is split into five classes per day:
9:00 - 10:00    Fashion branding
10:00 - 11:30    Fashion Design and Sewing
11:30 - 12:30    Fashion Illustration
12:30 - 1:30    Lunch
1:30 - 3:30    Fashion NYC
3:30 - 5:00    Accessory Design

Schedule:
Session 1: July 7th-18th
Session 2: July 21st – August 1st
Session 3: August 4th – 15th
Session 4: August 18th – 29th

Fashion Branding highlights some of the most creative parts of the Fashion Industry, marketing and branding. Students look at fashion company logos and collections before designing their own fashion brand name and logo. They’ll also create a Mood Board for their first collection, design their own monogrammed fabric, create a slogan and advertisement photo- shoot, and create a one-of-a kind mini window display.

Fashion Design + Sewing students learn to make their own clothing from the first fabric cut to the final runway strut.  They’ll learn to use the sewing machine, cut and measure fabric and use a pattern to create unique one-of-a-kind clothing for themselves.  Projects are always exciting and progress every 2 weeks (so students can keep expanding their own fashion lines) projects include a handbag, skirt, dress or pants -  our students make 4-5 pieces in 10 days.

The creativity doesn’t stop there; our little designers are given free rein to express themselves stylize and decorate their creations with our Bedazzler,  fabric paint, ribbon and trim so each product has their own personal creative touch. Every designer must culminate their “season” with a fashion show!  Free for parents and friends, the students transform to model and display their custom looks on our Fashion Class runway!

Fashion Illustration: if it’s worn it was first drawn!  Students learn all about fashion design by sketching the fashion figure, creating a style book of their favorite fashion images, designing their own fabric and drawing clothing. This is a great starter class for a budding fashionista who yearns to see her garment idea transform to paper.  We even have a live fashion model drawing class! Students assemble a professional portfolio that goes on display during the Fashion Show.

Fashion NYC teaches children all about the fashion capital of the world, NYC. The Fashion Class camp will visit showrooms, designers, and museums to expand our knowledge of the design world and New York City. We’ll draw inspiration from watching fashion shows, store window displays, and photo shoots. Guest speakers, such as fashion buyers, models, and stylists will offer their professional views on design and style with fun activities and games.

Fashion Accessories: The key to any trendy and chic look is flawless accessorizing.  Students willl not only learn to design and create but also to sew and embellish trendy accessories. Students will learn to use a sewing machine plus hand sewing skills to create handbags, mini top hats, embellished shoes, amazing fabric jewelry and more. Our student designers create 5-7 pieces in 10 days and model it all in our free and fabulous fashion show!
