1-Day Paperweight Workshop

This class was awesome! Everyone got to make 2 paperweights, and some got to make three. They showed us a variety of different techniques, and walked us individually through the process of actually achieving them. There were 3 instructors for our 9 student class. The facility is very clean and well organized -- everything thing is where it is for a reason. After an overview of the process and picking out what colors/techniques we wanted to use, we split up into three groups. Each person took a turn to make their paperweight with the supervision, guidance, and help of the instructor; you get their full attention when it's your turn. I happened to work with a different instructor on each of the three pieces I made; each one taught a bit differently, but they were all great. One of them was a lot better at giving verbal cues for where I should be. Another was great because she fell back more and let me do more of the work with just verbal instructions rather than assistance, even if it took a little longer and looked a little lumpier in the process. I am very happy with the facility, instructors, and curriculum. The other students were very nice as well. I've recommended it to every friend I've seen since I took the class -- and to every one on facebook. It is completely worth the price.

Intro to Neon Weekend

If you are interested in learning how to work with neon, take this class. I drove 3 hours from Cape May, New Jersey and stayed at a hotel for the weekend. (By the way, the La Quinta Hotel is right across the street from the studio if you are coming from out of town.) I was in a class of 5 students. Our instructor David made sure he understood what each of us wanted to accomplish through this class. He then worked with us, as a group at first and then individually giving each of us help and instruction to reach our specific goal. The first day we learned the basics of bending, filling and shop safety. We each made a working neon light that we kept. Day two we each picked a project and worked individually with plenty of one-on-one from the instructor and his assistant. The shop is clean and well equipped. The instructor and assistant were there early and stayed late both days. I would highly recommend this class, and I'm really glad I took it myself.

1-Day Intro to Glassblowing and Mug Workshop

While this course is useful and necessary to anyone, like myself, with no prior experience of glassblowing, it resulted in a poor outcome for me. The primary reason for the negative review was the not-to-experienced instructor, who failed to manage the time of the class properly. While another small group of 3 students was able to accomplish 2 pieces of work for each student in the allotted class time, my instructor permitted 1 of our group's 3 students to make an elaborate, time consuming piece, thereby leaving little time for the 2nd student, and no time for me, to create a second piece. This is not good for future business. Had I been in the group with the more efficient instructor, I would have jumped at the chance to sign up for additional courses. Now, I'm not so sure. If you take this course, be sure to ask for an instructor who is a member of staff.
