What you'll learn in this film production class:

Eighty-five percent of all feature films are either produced or directed by the screenwriter. This intensive filmmaking course, literally a “Two-Day Film School,” teaches the writer how to take his or her script and make it into an independent feature film that can win awards at festivals and secure profitable distribution deals.

This comprehensive, rapid-fire weekend will teach you how to:

  • Produce, Budget and Schedule Your Screenplay
  • Direct, Shoot and Edit Your Movie
  • Make the Most of Festivals, Awards and Agents
  • Finance, Distribute and Sell
Day One

Produce & Direct - Shoot Your Film:
The first day of the workshop teaches you—the writer—a foolproof step-by-step process for making your script into an independent feature film with budgets that range from $5,000 to $5,000,000.

Bonus: Digital Filmmaking A-Z.

Day Two

Finance & Distribute - Sell Your Film:
The second day covers a proven method to market, sell and distribute your film around the world and garner global revenues from the theatrical, video, cable, music and broadcasting industries.

Bonus: Publicity & Festival Awards

Attendees receive a Producer’s Diploma and Filmmaker’s Certificate.

Pre-registration required.

Refund & Cancellation Policy

If you need to withdraw from class, here are your options:

For Everything (except one-session classes/events)
For a refund or credit, you need to send an email to [email protected] two business days or more before your class starts. You can either choose to hold a full store credit with us good on other classes for a year or you can opt for a refund less a $25 administrative fee and your $25 registration fee ($50 total).

One-Session Classes and Events (Write-Ins/Take-Aways)
If you withdraw from any Write-In or Take-Away two hours or more before it begins, you're welcome to a full Gotham credit toward another Write-In or Take-Away. No refunds are available.

A few more things:
  • Simply not attending class or notifying the instructor does not mean you've officially withdrawn.
  • Credits are valid for one year and cannot be changed into refunds down the road.
  • Some exceptions are made on a case-by-case basis for medical emergencies with a doctor's note.
  • Refunds take up to six weeks to process.
Please understand, we can't issue a refund after classes have started, even if you miss your first class. Similarly, we can't offer you a store credit one day before your second class or after that. We understand that other obligations get in the way of attending class, but these policies allow us to get other interested writers into class early enough to have a good experience, and this allows us to offer our classes at a reasonable price.

It was a woderful experience. Will definitely do it again soon!

I enjoyed the atmosphere, but I didn't like that we were only allowed to give positive feedback. I'm all for positive comments, but I'd also want constructive feedback that could help me improve my writing. Also, maybe we can add this rule: While listening to feedback, the writer shouldn't be allowed to speak. Sometimes writers want to defend a choice, but end up arguing with the person giving the comment.

Attended: Dialogue Writing Intensive

Absolutely fantastic course, I'd recommend to the beginner as well as the seasoned writer wanting to hone their skills. Very informative and great use of exercise and script analysis to learn the process. Carl was a wealth of information and I'd take another class from him in a heartbeat.

Attended: Write-In

I really enjoyed this class. I like the approach to writing creatively and receiving supportive feedback from peers. I hadn't written in a while, so I found this refreshing. I'll be returning to GWW for another course.

Attended: Songwriting Intensive

Alex Forbes is an excellent instructor. She had everyone involved and made the class quite enjoyable. I would highly recommend this class to the aspiring songwriter. Thumbs up all the way!

Attended: Creative Writing 101 | 6-Week Workshop

Its a nice introduction if you haven't had any proper creative writing training.

Attended: Songwriting Intensive

Excellent class. Amazing amount of information in one day. Tony Conniff is terrific, and the course was fun.

Attended: How to Get Published Level 1

Excellent instructor. I learned alot-Facilities not too great crowded room too many in the class.

Attended: Memoir Writing Intensive

Very satisfied. Good instructor. Nice group of students.

Attended: How to Blog Level 1

I would recommend this class for those who have little or no knowledge about blogging. Out of the 15 or so participants half, including myself, had basic prior knowledge and were clearly tuning out in the first session (each session is 3hrs long and doesn't finish till 10pm) as the teacher focused on the fundamentals. As part of the course you are asked to create your own blog which is critiqued by the teacher and participants in the second session so be prepared to do done homework. Lastly, the teacher is experienced and did her best to cater to everyone's needs.
