What you'll learn in this dye class:

Discover the ancient weaving art of Ikat - first starting by creating your pattern, winding and dying the wrap, and then finishing by learning the basics of weaving on a pre-dressed floor loom.

Ikat weaving is an ancient weaving and dyeing technique, that has been used on almost every continent. In this technique, the pattern of the fabric is obtained by resist-dyeing the warp threads before being woven. The pattern will be appear when the warp is woven, in a very subtle and feathered way. In the first two sessions students will create their ikat pattern, wind their warp and learn how to dye the warp threads. In the remaining 2 sessions students will learn the basics of weaving on a pre-dressed floor loom and watch their Ikat design come to life!

Attended: Indigo Natural Dyeing

The class was very interesting and the instructor was knowledgeable. Due to circumstances beyond her control, there was some trouble with the first batch of dye, but we were able to try again a second time. Two suggestions that might make things a bit easier for all: If the teacher provided everyone with pre-cut fabrics, so that everyone had the same size and number of pieces, that would be good (and if people brought their own stuff to dye, they could do so at the end, not during). Second, I think it would be good if the process of how to prepare the material, dye it, rinse, etc., were explained more clearly, especially for beginners. Instructor followed up with emailed information, which was nice. However, the class was very comfortable and a good experience trying something different. Thank you!

Joey, the instructor/teacher is absolutely delightful! She was very knowledgeable, accommodating and simply a pleasure to learn from. I would go back to take any other course she is teaching!

Attended: Weaving 101

this is a very good class. Kira our instructor was excellent in that it was definitely a hands on program. We learned terminology as we needed it, we learned all the aspects a beginning weaver should know. Kira was encouraging and supportive of the project choices, when there were problems and questions. I highly recommend this class for anyone who is interested in weaving .
