About Stand-up Comedy Writing Classes:
Comics say it’s the greatest high. You step into the light, take a swig of water, pick up the mic, then reduce a crowd of people to a mass of helpless laughter. Sure, the risks are great – silence, heckling, complete humiliation – but on a good night a stand-up feels rich enough to buy Cosby a cigar and Seinfeld a Porsche.
Performance finesse and a good crowd help, but you “kill” or “die” depending on your written material. First, the laughs must be there on paper. In our course, you will develop an eye for fresh ideas, an ear for well-crafted jokes, learn how to structure an act, and tailor material to your individual persona. Whether you favor shtick or sophistication, we’ll show you how to write standup material that makes ‘em fall down laughing.
What to expect in a one-day intensive workshop:
The workshops provide beginners with a clear sense of fundamental principles. Participants have an opportunity to learn from professionals and ask questions.
No matter what your level, in-class exercises get you writing.
For those with some or even a great deal of writing experience, a One-Day Intensive Workshop is a potent refresher. While much of what the instructor says may sound familiar, clarifying basic concepts makes it easier to put them into practice.
Many people find that taking a One-Day Intensive Workshop is an excellent way to generate ideas for new writing projects.
Many people take a One-Day Intensive Workshop as a sampler to see if they are interested in a specific form.
If you have an idea for a writing project, the One-Day Intensive Workshop is a great place to learn strategies for developing your project.
A One-Day Intensive Workshop provides you with valuable writing tools - the tools you need on your belt if your project is giving you fits, or if the initial inspiration has faded.
