Class Description

Description

What you'll learn in this comedy class:

If you are serious about stand-up, this is the only class that covers it all. It literally answers every question you have about stand-up and all the ones you haven’t thought of yet. The Only workshop recommended by comedy legend George Wallace.

There is nothing like the live experience. It’s true in watching stand-up and it’s true in teaching stand-up. The live class gives you the unique opportunity to interact directly with the instructor, ask questions relating to your material and get solutions tailored to you.

Plus, you get to learn from feedback the instructor gives the other students as they work through their stand-up routine. Work with other comics, network and observe the transformation of mediocre jokes to killer jokes and learn the process during the instructor feedback.

25 Major Subjects

1. Introduction
Learn how to become a comedian. Well, you have to get your feet wet if you want to learn how to swim.

2. Comic vs Comedian
There’s a difference between being a comic and a comedian and an entire spectrum in between. Greg will help you figure out where you fit in the spectrum, which can make all the difference.

3. Three Golden Rules of Stand-up Comedy
These three powerful stand-up comedy lessons will ensure you actually accomplish the goal of stand-up: being funny.

4. Building Blocks of Stand-up
Learn how to do stand up comedy starting with a clear understanding of joke structure. Find your voice and build a strong set that makes you funny and unique.

5. Types of Punch lines
There is more than one type of punch line. Learning which ones work best for your style of comedy is the most important lesson of any stand up comedy class. This is the only stand up comedy class that teaches them all.

6. Magic Ingredient
Learning the mechanics of punch lines is not the end of stand up comedy how to… it’s the beginning. Learn the magic ingredient that makes them work.

7. Five Major Tools of Stand-up
Learning how to be a Working comedian means mastering all 5 of the major tools that make up modern stand up.

8. Tool 1 – Joke Writing
Most stand up comedy workshops begin and end here. But there is so much more. The punch line doesn’t always belong at the end. Depending on how you structure the joke the punch line might come first.

9. Ratios and Editing
Learn how to be a working comedian, how to edit your material for maximum effectiveness. Get to the funny.

10. From Joke to Bit to Routine
This is where we really separate from other stand up comedy classes. You don’t just learn how to write jokes; you learn how to do stand up comedy by building your jokes into bits, then building your bits into a full routine.

11. RaRa vs HaHa
You need to know what type of comedian you are. Understanding these two very different presentation styles are invaluable stand up comedy lessons.

12. Tool 2 – Storytelling
Modern stand-up grew out of Storytelling. Storytelling remains a core element of learning how to be a comedian. But not all stories are created equal. There is a single element a story needs for it to go from your backyard bbq party to the comedy club.

13. Tool 3 – Act Outs
Don’t just tell them, Show them. A punch line-filled act-out creates a layered routine that is the hallmark of how to be a working comedian.

14. Referencing
This invaluable stand up comedy lesson is a tool that applies to sketch, TV and film writing. Not all references are created equal. Not just a stand up comedy how to, a stand up comedy Must Have.

15. Tool 4 – Improvisation
A subject foreign to most stand up comedy classes, and yet it is the name of the most popular stand up comedy clubs in the world! Learn where improvisation fits and how to use it in stand up, because it is totally different when you are standing up on stage alone.

16. Tool 5 – Crowd-Work
At some point in learning how to become a comedian, you will have to learn to interact with the audience. The thing that separates the good comedians from the great comedians is how well you work the crowd. Good crowd-work can leave you soaring like an eagle while bad crowd-work can send you crashing straight into comedy hell.

17. Performance, Timing and Delivery
Timing and delivery can create punch lines where it seems like there are no punch lines. This is the only stand up comedy class that will show you how to get the most out of your performance. Learn how to strike a rhythm with your timing and delivery.

18. Handling Hecklers
Oh, It’s Going To Happen. No one escapes learning how to become a comedian unscathed. It can either be the best part of your set or the worst. Greg shows you step-by-step how to win the audience over and own the stage.

19. Gimmick Comedy
There IS a place for it. Having a gimmick does not alleviate the need to learn how to do great stand up comedy. It should only enhance it.

20. Politics of Comedy
Learning how to be a working comedian also means learning how to network. There are a lot of pitfalls in a job with a bar and a microphone.

21. Business of Comedy
It’s not enough to learn how to do stand up comedy, learn how to sell stand up comedy.

22. Lifestyle of the Comedian
Learn how to stay alive while you learn how to be a comedian. Learn from a national headliner Greg Wilson the in and outs of the industry.

23. Chasing the Tape
Making a video seems simple enough, but it can be trickier than a Romanian gypsy. Learn how to navigate the process long after the stand up comedy class ends.

24. Repetition, Repetition, Repetition
When it comes to learning how to become a comedian there is simply no substitute for repetition. How much, how often and what you do with that time makes all the difference.

25. Breaking Clubs, Festivals and Colleges
The final stand up comedy how to… learn from a working headliner the truth about how to be a regular at comedy clubs, get on the college touring circuit and kill at festivals!
