To be able to speak Chinese in basic situations and learn some characters. To develop a deeper understanding of Chinese, in particular its grammatical structure and vocabulary used when speaking the language. Writing skills will also be improved. By the end of this course students should know around 300-500 hanzi (Chinese characters)

Basic conversation, reading, listening and writing skills will be taught including tones and the Romanized version of Chinese, pin-yin.
Students attending this class will refine their ability to pronounce correctly using the four tones, and practice asking and answering personal questions of one another that involve eating, traveling, shopping and talking about the weather.
