What you'll learn in this blues class:

Are you unsure about what scales to play when you see a chord symbol? Would you like to work on your rhythm? Would you like to know how to learn a tune effectively? Would you like to expand your repertoire? Do you want to improve your improvisation skills? If you answered yes to any of these questions the “blues to Jazz Standards” workshop is for you! The class will cover ear-training, intervals and triads and how to use them during improvisation, modes and how they relate to chords, melodies, and progressions found in jazz, as well as basic chord progressions such as ii-V-I and the Blues. Students will learn information about key jazz musicians through the use of listening examples and discussion. In addition, Tim Price will introduce a method on how to learn a tune and a system to help you build up a repertoire. Perhaps the most valuable experience for students is the opportunity to meet and to play with other enthusiastic musicians. This class introduces students to the world of improvisation through interplay in an ensemble setting. Students should be comfortable playing their instrument or singing and the ability to read music is recommended but not required. The only other requirement for the class is that you come eager to learn and to grow as a musician. Beginner to Intermediate level.

Refund & Cancellation Policy

Once students commit to participating at the workshop we hire a teacher and block the space for the class. The NYJW commits to the payment of the teacher and the studio rental and we therefore are unable to offer refunds. We try to keep the costs for the students as low as possible and we do offer the opportunity to participate in one of our classes before signing up.

Teacher: Tim Price

Tim Price has had the extreme good fortune to have bands of his own featuring world class stellar players like Lew Tabackin, Rachel Z, Allison Miller, and Scott Lee. His stature at the North Sea Jazz Festival couldn't have been more prestigious with a backup band of Bennie Green on piano, Ray Drummond on bass, and Carl Allen on drums. Tim's special guest that night at the end of his set was Dutch superstar tenor titan Hans Dulfer.

Tim Price is a Selmer saxophone clinician, and a demanded performer and educator worldwide. Tim, a Berklee College of Music graduate, is one of the country's foremost woodwind artists. He has played with musicians like Bennie Green, Hans Dulfer, Lew Tabackin, Ray Drummond, Jon Mayer, Greg Bandy, James Gadson, Don Patterson, Billy James, Major Holly, Alan Dawson, Bill Doggett, Jack Mc Duff, Cecil Payne, Richie Cole, Ernie Watts, Charlie Watts from the Rolling Stones, Gary Burton, Doc Severinson, Dr. John, Phil Woods, Charlie Mariano, Shirly Scott, Trudy Pitts, Sonny Stitt and Ernie Krivda, Rachel Z, Sue Terry, and John LaPorta. To name but a few! Professor Price teaches jazz saxophone at the New School University in New York City
