What you'll learn in this blues class:The class will cover ear-training, intervals and triads and how to use them during improvisation, modes and how they relate to chords, melodies, and progressions found in jazz, as well as basic chord progressions such as ii-V-I and the Blues.
Students will learn information about key jazz musicians through the use of listening examples and discussion. In addition, the instructor will introduce a method on how to learn a tune and a system to help you build up a repertoire. Perhaps the most valuable experience for students is the opportunity to meet and to play with other enthusiastic musicians. This class introduces students to the world of improvisation through interplay in an ensemble setting.
Students should be comfortable playing their instrument or singing and the ability to read music is recommended but not required. The only other requirement for the class is that you come eager to learn and to grow as a musician.
Cancellation PolicyOnce students commit to participating at the workshop we hire a teacher and block the space for the class. The NYJW commits to the payment of the teacher and the studio rental and we therefore are unable to offer refunds. We try to keep the costs for the students as low as possible and we do offer the opportunity to participate in one of our classes before signing up.
