Open Level Modern/Roots

What you'll learn in this african dance class:

This class will introduce students to West African dance styles ranging from Senegal, Mali, Guinea and Ghana respectively.

The term modern/roots lends itself to further defining the Africanist* presence in American dance. Class connects "modern" concepts such as a weighted and grounded approach to movement and release-based work connecting with the earth to extensive polyrhythmic body phrases that cradle the idea of eclectic driven movement patterns. (*The term "Africanist" includes concepts, practices, attitudes or forms that have roots/origins in Africa and the African Diaspora.)Please note: A dance partner is not required for this class.
