What you'll learn in this access training:

You will examine the basic database concepts, and create and modify databases and their various objects using the Microsoft Office Access 2007 relational database application.

Most organizations maintain and manage large amounts of information. One of the most efficient and powerful ways of managing data is by using relational databases. Information can be stored, linked, and managed using a single relational database application and its associated tools.

This course is designed for students who wish to learn the basic operations of the Microsoft Access Database program to perform their day-to-day responsibilities, and to understand the advantages that using a relational database program can bring to their business processes. The Level 1 course is for the individual whose job responsibilities include designing and creating new databases, tables, and relationships; creating and maintaining records; locating records; and producing reports based on the information in the database. It also provides the fundamental knowledge and techniques needed to advance to more complex Access responsibilities such as maintaining databases and using programming techniques that enhance Access applications.

Students will receive a Certificate of Completion at the end of this course and may retake the same course as many times as they want.

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
  • examine the basic database concepts and explore the Microsoft Office Access 2007 environment
  • design a simple database
  • build a new database with related tables
  • manage the data in a table
  • query a database using different methods
  • design forms
  • generate reports
Prerequisite: Students should have a basic understanding of Windows, including how to use files and folders.

This was an excellent class. Pete the instructor had his own home grown project instead of using the microsoft materials which many times are more product focused than usefful. We were not able to get through all the material so hopefully I can take it again when I have time. It was an excellent intro and since none of us have programming work experience it was paced perfectly.

Great class and very comprehensive. The progression was very linear and straight forward.

Attended: Microsoft Word 2010 Level 1

I was unaware that it did not cross over to Mac , but I did learn what all the icons meant- which was helpful in its' own way. I was surprised however that we really did not work on an actual document of our own to implement and question techniques. The reason I am giving 3 stars is that I thought Stu was unnecessarily rude to one of the students and he could not hide his frustration. I understand that she was being vague, etc. , but I really felt he could have handled himself in a more professional manner, especially since he is an educator.

Overall, I think the class was OK. I get the feeling that the teacher didn't really want to be there. I left feeling like I basically didn't know a thing about Dreamweaver - even though I feel like I did learn some things. That being said, the teacher knew his stuff. I probably would not go there again.

great class!

Attended: SQL Level 2

SQL Level 2 is a great course to introduce you to making changes to a database. You learn how to create tables, modify table content, adding/deleting records, create views, change field properties, and set keys. You need to know how to write basic queries, so take the SQL Level 1 class first if you are a beginner. Peter was our instructor and his customized course material is very well laid out with practical examples. You work on a local sample database, so you can type notes and test your queries to better understand the output you get. The facility is neat, the equipment is fairly new and ready to use, and beverages are provided.

I really enjoyed this course. I walked away firm understand of the fundamentals. The teacher was quick and to the point. I'm looking forward to taking more classes soon!

Attended: Microsoft Excel 2010 Level 2

This was the instructor's first time teaching the course and it was clear there was no preparation. The instructor read through the book (which was clearly her first time doing so) and there was little emphasis on "learning", more so on just copying what was on the page. I was hoping to build upon my own Excel skills, but what ended up happening was I was teaching the instructor Excel. Although she rejoiced that, "we're all teaching each other, this is great", it was not the type of experience I was hoping for. The instructor had minimal Level 1 Excel skills and was not equipped to teach this class. What scared me was that she was teaching a Level 3 Excel class the following week. One other student in my class was a veteran who was looking to get into the workforce and had already taken the Excel Level 1 class with this instructor earlier in the week. I felt very sorry for him because it became very apparent that the instructor was just hoping to BS her way through the instruction manual, and not really offer any valuable learning tools. Although she said she was once a teacher, it seemed as though she had never taught people in her life. Her teaching style was dreadful at best – speaks volumes that the agency would hire and allow this type of person to teach a Level 2 Excel class. I believe it was a scam. Don’t waste your time or money with this; splurge and go somewhere reputable.

Attended: Adobe Illustrator CS5 Level 1

This was an excellent course. The instructor clearly explained the key concepts and most frequently used tools. The course uses PCs for instruction but the instructor did a good job of explaining how to do things on both PCs and Macs. The small class size also provided a lot of room for us to talk about how to apply Illustrator to our own projects. You also get a thick booklet and cd with exercises to take home afterward. Bonus: You can retake the class again for free within 6 months if you need a refresher.

I would recommend it if they took it with Professor Day Yi. He was great and patient with everyone's questions. Thanks!

Great course. Great instructor! Learned a lot bc it was taught in a very straightforward manner with good examples.

Attended: Adobe Photoshop CS5 Level 1

This skill is very new to me, However, the instructor was very patient and answered every question. I would highly recommend this class.

Attended: SQL Level 1

This was a very well organized and appropriately paced class. The instructor encouraged questions and provided very detailed responses whenever possible. The greatest bonus about taking courses at The Career Center is that you can retake them at any time. Huge plus for technical skills that can easily be forgotten if not implemented right away. I am very satisfied and plan to sign up for more classes.

Guys, this class was great! I would recommend it to a friend. I especially liked the work book; it was so so helpful, I'm sure I will use it a couple times or even more. Lots of really good examples there. Lots of advice on how to deal with problems as a customer service representative. Also the teacher - Liz - is such a good person. She has a lot of experience and you can discuss all you need with her.

Greg was great! Very patient and extremely knowledgeable. It was clear that he enjoys teaching this topic.

Attended: Adobe Photoshop CS5 Level 1

I really enjoyed the class yesterday and I thought that Jesper was such an amazing teacher. He really made the class and the other two women who were with me thought the same! He was so thorough in explaining EVERYTHING and gave each one of us lots of individual time to answer our questions. He made it fun and interesting as well. I learned so much and could not be more pleased!
